All Day T-Hunt

The Hider: Don KF6GQ
The plan had both KD6LAJ & KF6GQ doing the hide on hunt day, but Steve called me the week before, and told me that he wouldn't be able to hide any T's, because he was going to have to work all day. Oh boy! Did that put a kink in the plans.
Well I decided to place some T's up where MI tried to hide on the last all-day that he did. No one except lawyer Scott could get up to that area because of the fire closure. The plan was to have two T's in the San Gabriel Valley and the rest up in the Gorman area. I had my wife (KA6TAS) place a T (T2) in the flood control area of the San Gabriel River, north of the 210 freeway. This area is nice because it has lots of underbrush and running water (token water crossing). AIN said his feet got wet. Access was from the bike path parking area or from Fish Canyon road in Daurte. It was running about 2 watts to a J antenna, hidden in the brush. When she left the T she didn't put a sign in sheet with the T, so I'm not sure if anyone got to the T before 13:00 hrs. If so tell me the miles and describe the hiding location, I will modify the results.
The shortest route would have been to get T2 first, then go up the I-5 freeway to Templin Hwy exit. T8 was at a tunnel under the freeway, placed in such a way that the signal would only be heard after passing by the only exit for 7 miles. I think most got it coming back down the I-5.
The next T would be the one near the Smokey Bear exit. You had to determine which side of the canyon that splits the valley. I hid it on the west side about 3 miles from the main road. It was a Squawk Box IDing as "Come and get me T". I had it hooked up to a invisible 3 element beam, pointed at I-5. This T could easily be heard at the main T site.
Then the rest of the T's where up off of the old Ridge Route via 138. Note this road is going to be used for some kind of motorized event on August 16th, does TNJ & crew know what it's going to be? Up near Libre Mt. T7 (main T) and two other T's, Snake and T3 (Tree T). The Main T was running about 250mw into a 15 element boomer beam at 5768" elevation pointed at the start point.
Snake T was just off of a hiking trail that connects with the Pacific Crest Trail (Token PCT T). T3 was up in this most beautiful old oak tree (see pictures). A very nice place, except for all the bugs.
I hope that all
who came out had a good time. I went up on Sunday and turned off all the T's,
all where still running except T2 which I beleive went dead some time after
23:00 hrs. It went into an abnormal mode, >50% duty cycle, and ran the battery
down. Steve's T was hearable until sometime after 16:00hrs. I think he moved it,
because no one had checked into it.
