I hesitate to write this story, because it’s a bit embarrassing. I know that several
of the hunters had some contact with bugs on the hunt Saturday so they should appreciate
this story more than others. My story actually started on Saturday, when I was setting
up the main transmitter. Surrounding the location of this T, were thousands of Foxtails
weeds, ready to attack my socks. As I left, I found that my socks where totally penetrated
by these spears. Needless to say, walking while these things stuck into me was not the best
thing I can think of for a walk. So off came the socks and the rest of the time I walked
without the socks. Later that day, I talked to Deryl and he told me he was going to
charge me for a new pair of socks. So come Sunday while getting ready to take down
the T, I first took off my shoes then my socks. Back on went the shoes but no socks.
As I was dismantling the antenna, I felt some discomfort on my feet. Not knowing what
the trouble was, I sat down to take off my shoe. Well it seems that I had placed my
feet right on a red anthill, they where swarming all over my feet. Then I felt a bite
on my back, oh no! I had sat down on the ants! Now I was really in trouble, I ran out
of there as quickly as I could shedding all my clothes as fast as I could. I got bit
just about everywhere that there was something that would squeeze the ants to make them
bite. My feet where my shoes had squashed them and my belt line where the belt also put
pressure on them. I used my T-shirt to sweep all the ants away. If anybody had been up
there watching, I would have made an interesting picture. With no clothes on whacking my
body with my T-shirt. I sure you get the picture. Needless to say the rest of the day was
spent in some agony, my feet stung my back and parts of my legs burned. When I got home
I showered and put on some cortisone and alvera cream. Later that night I found that what
actually worked was fresh onions. Needless to say, my wife stayed a long distance from me
Sunday night. I have so much fun putting on these hunts!
