Pathfinder
Sept. 13, 2008
It was a fine
evening for a
hunt and a lot of hunters agreed with some 5 teams at the start. I was
in the
“stealth” mobile with the Doppler. One of five transmitters were heard
at the
start by most folk but it was weak and I thought I had little hope with
the
Doppler. Don, using SSB had a bearing of 24 degrees and Dave and Deryl
seemed
to agree. Bob couldn’t find anything at 24 degrees but had a signal at
340. I
heard nothing.
<>I moved about 5 ft and lo
and
behold, there was a transmitter at 340 on the Doppler. WOW!! I got out
the
Australian sniffer and again got 340 degrees. >
<>
I took Pathfinder west and
occasionally got a signal, but not often, ranging from 320 to 10. Twice
I got
just a blip at 220, but not often enough to register that it was down
that way.
At Fullerton
Rd I
went to the 60 Fwy and on west to the 605. I heard
nothing on the freeways. (I should have heard something at the 60/605
interchange, to the SW but I didn’t). >
<>
Still going on the 340 from
the start I went north up the 605 and east on the 10 to the 15 and
again north
to the 210 and having heard nothing since Fullerton Rd, I was giving up and went home.>
<>
After I got home I plotted
the 24 degrees and it was pointed at Mt San Antonio. The 340 was
pointed at Mt
Wilson. I shudda plotted them and concluded that they were bounces and
to look
for any southern signal. >
<>
I think it is amazing how the
Doppler is making me unsure and confused. I know to plot, but I don’t.
I’ve got
to learn of high spots for hides down south on the coast and down south
inland
on the other side and to find stuff hiding behind Rose Hills. I don’t give up easily, but I sure learn
slowly.>
