Hiders: Leonard Jensen KA6KZZ, Steve Silsbee KC6NFF

This was our first attempt at hiding for the Pathfinder Hunt. We apologize for our errors that caused any consternation for the hunters. There were two hidden Transmitters.

KC6NFF was in the Glendale hills, east of the 2 freeway, north of the 134. It was located off of Camino San Rafael. The transmitter was 10 w into an 8 element quad pointed at Catalina. Some hunters chased reflections of the buildings in downtown Los Angeles.

KA6KZZ was in Pasadena near the 210 freeway. The transmitter was 25 w into an 11 element yagi placed into and pointing into the Metro Link Gold Line tunnel which exits into the center divider of the 210 freeway. This is why KZZ could be heard along the 210 freeway and down town LA near the tracks, but dificult to hear anywhere else.

Murphy Lives. There were complaints that the T's could not be heard at the start except on SSB. We boosted the transmit power to maximum on both the T's. We later discovered that the audio input to the transmitters was way too low, causing insufficient deviation. We finally got that corrected, and that seems to have solved the audio problem. Then the battery for KZZ died. That had to do with 25 w instead of the planned 5w. It was too late for some hunters when we got that corrected and back on the air.

We also accept the criticism that we forgot to put a pencil at the sign in sheet for NFF. In summation, we probably learned more from our experience hiding than in several times hunting. Thanks for coming out.
