We had a bit of a wet Pathfinder hunt this February, which forced me to fall back to plan B, so the hunters (and I) could keep out of the mud.

T1 and T2 were within 1/4 mile of each other, high up in the Laguna Beach area. T1 was running 2 W into a 5/8 wave magmount stuck to a control box in the park behind the fire station on Alta Laguna Blvd. and Tree Top Lane. There was such an incredible 360 degree panorama, that the signal was heard very well throughout Orange County. To get to the T, however, you had to go just about to the ocean in Laguna Beach then back north into the hills. WB6ADC/N6UZS were first in to T1 with a low 41 miles.

T2 was meant to be harder to find. It was running 300mW into a 1/4 wave whip, and was chained to the guard rail at the end of Lavender Lane, just 1/4 mile SW of T1. The shortest route to T2 required going most of the way back down the hill, then taking a series of twisty streets winding around and through various little canyons back up nearly to the top. WA6PYE/WA6DLQ apparently hid at this location before, and it showed with a near-perfect 4 miles between T1 and T2, which was decisive in earning them the win for this hunt. If you are interested in a description of ALL the little canyons in this area, WB6ADC/N6UZS took the scenic route, racking up 24.6 miles between T1 and T2.

Thanks for hunting. Hope all had a good time, despite the rain.
