Summary from our team.
Arriving late (thought we were meeting for breakfast at 10:00 AM)
Joe-N6SZO, Greg-KD6YQR and Brian-WB2JCG decided to hide two transmitters out
to the east just off Calle Contento. One T was identified as Tom's-VCR T2
and the other was N6SZO T1. We hid Tom's right next to the road so if
someone was going to steal one that would be the one! This one was hidden
about 1/4 mile south of Rancho California Road on the east side of Calle
Contento. No one stole this one or even signed in for some reason. The
N6SZO T was north of Rancho California Road on the west side of Calle
Contento and up a fairly steep dirt road leading to the top of a hill. The
T was hidden in a lumber pile at the top of the east side of the hill. This
was found by only one team KF6GQ/LAJ at 1300 with a note that said
"Hate U 4 Long Duty Cycles" must have covered up some other signals
somewhere.
After hiding these two it was 11:00 AM and time to start. Signals
everywhere.....tried to follow a few and then decided to concentrate on a
strong one to the west. Spend some time going up the mountain but came back
down to the Industrial Park and looked around there. Satisfied that there
was nothing there we headed back up the mountain and managed to find 4 of ?
transmitters before it was time to head back down. On the way down we
decided to look north of the Industrial Park and picked up some stronger
signals but could not get around to the location that we thought they were
in before 5:00 PM so we headed back to pick up our T's. As we approached
the area we could not hear either one. We thought maybe someone had picked
them up for us? The one VCR had loaned us was not transmitting at the time
we picked it up. When we opened the box it started transmitting again so we
shut it off and went to retrieve the other T. When we arrived the battery
was dead on the radio, guess using Low power instead of Economical low ran
the battery down sometime between the time that it was found (1300) and the
time we returned. Sorry about that.
Anway as they say....A good time was had by all.
