Don's Story of The
May 31st. FFA Hunt
It was troubling that we couldn't get any commitments on the
hunt, but we went ahead with it anyway (what else are you going to do on an
extra Saturday). So I picked up Steve (LAJ), at about 9:00am at his house in
Fontana, and went on our way to see the hunters/hiders at the restaurant. At
about 10:00am still far from the restaurant, we started to hear several T's, So
instead of going to hide ours, we went off and located several of Jippy’s T's.
While we where looking for his T's we also hid several of our T's not too far
away from Jippy’s T's. At about 12:00pm, we couldn't identify any new T's that
we hadn’t found. So we decided to hide one more T. One the way we came across
Jippy and he was looking for KD6LAJ's T, which was quite strong at this
location. We went on our way and hid a T at about 1:00pm This was T2 running 2
watts to a vertical. This T was at location H7 on page 686, up high overlooking
the area of 215/60 freeway. This was our fourth and last T. The first T we put
out was a LAJ T running about 1W to a 1/4 antenna. This was located between the
60/215 freeway and some railroad track, next to a cell site. To get there you
had to find a dirt road, cross a river then go about 1/2 mile to the site. Two
hunters found this T, Deryl and David. The next T we hid not too far from
Jippy’s T that was near a power substation on Central Av. This T was found by
only two hunters Deryl, and David. I think Jippy had too many T's out and
couldn't hear any of our T's. The Third T was hidden west of Chicago Av. just
south of Central. This T also had a river near by. It was found by AIN only. At
about 12:00pm, we couldn't identify any new T's that we hadn’t found. So we
decided to hide one more T. On the way we came across Jippy and he was looking
for KD6LAJ's T, which was quite strong at this location. We went on our way and
hid a T at about 1:00pm This was T2 running 2 watts to a vertical. This T was at
location H7 on page 686, up high overlooking the area of 215/60 freeway. This
was our fourth and last T. All hunters found this T! We found 4 of Jippy’s, Two
of David's and none of AIN's. We got home at 6:15pm, which left me with 3 hours
in which to do nothing unit the rest of the family to come home. I had a lot of
fun, because these are fun type hunts, and I got a chance to try out my new
VK3YNG Sniffer & my new Doppler, which worked surprisingly well. So watch out
for the team KF6GQ & KD6LAJ on the hunts coming up.
