KD6LAJ (with the support of WB6GSO) hid on Todd Place in Montebello, chosen for it's topology profile to the start point, and poor access from the front side. The height was about the same as the start point, and had two ridges in between of similar heights, this would give a good signal at the start, but much less signal along the route. The transmitter is a modified commercial transmitter board in the usual ammo box. It was set to put out about 1.5 watts into a quarter wave mag mount antenna, stuck to a chain-link fence. The proximity to a metal lamp pole caused a lot of ambiguity about which polarity to use for hunting.
